The goals of the lesson
General objectives:
- Introducing students to the history of the resistance movement in occupied Poland and in Niepołomice.
- Acquainting students with the history of Niepołomice during World War II.
The student remembers:
- The most important events in the history of World War II.
- Poland's political and military role during the war.
- The course of the most important stages of military operations.
- The nature of the German and Soviet occupation in Poland.
- The activity and structure of Polish immigration authorities in the West.
- The activity and structure of the civil and military underground in occupied Poland.
The student understands:
- The reasons for the outbreak of World War II and the German attack on Poland on September 1, 1939.
- The nature and course of Poland's defensive war in 1939.
- The reasons for the defeat of the Polish army in September 1939.
- Military significance of Niepołomice after World War I and at the beginning of World War II.
The student is able to:
- Independently or in a group find souvenirs and memories from the period of fights and occupation in Niepołomice.
- Search and select source material (e.g. oral - memories of family members, neighbors, etc.).
- Interpret known sources.
- Take part in documenting information about places related to the analyzed subject.
- Use the sources and acquired knowledge to interpret the analyzed issues.

Course of lesson

Introduction:
- determination of the subject by the teacher, introduction to the topic,
- discussion of the principles and organization of work during the lesson and the method of assessment,
- students recall the causes and nature of the outbreak and course of World War II in Europe,
- students discuss the course and tactics of the September 1939 campaign ,
- students indicate the military importance of Niepołomice and the surrounding towns,
- they use source materials, artifacts and iconography as an introduction to the subject under the guidance of a teacher.

Summary of the lesson and the topics discussed:
Students can:
- reconstruct the events of 1939-1945 in Europe and Poland,
- understand the importance of commemorating the heroes of the struggle against the Nazi occupation;
- understand the importance of local history for preserving collective memory,
- understand and appreciate the importance of collective historical memory,
Students' activity during classroom work and the ability to summarize and evaluate the analyzed content are assessed.
